3 Becomes 4!! Well after all of the waiting baby Smith finally decided to join us, Hugo Jack Smith arrived on 13 August; he is beautiful and has settled in great, even though I had totally wiped the memory of those initial sleepless nights!!!  Kate did great and is coping great with the boys.    I had jokingly given Kate a window of two days in between cake orders to have the baby and she obliged by having him on the Monday allowing me the chance to get back in to the shop for the weekends orders!!! This doesn’t mean I abandoned her straight away merely that I could work around sleeps, feeds etc :-) Here are a few from the last couple of weeks Rhea's Dora & Boots Secret Garden - Chocolate  Ruby's Mermaid - Vanilla & Strawberry  Giant Chocolate Cupcake  The lovely Rosemary & Ken get married! Mini treats!  Next week Peek-a-boo is supporting The Manly-Manado Walk 12 "Give Poverty the Flush" Venue: Manly Scenic Walkway from Spit Bridge to Manly. The Start is located at Ellery's Punt Reserve, the park north-east of Spit Bridge and just south of Avona Crescent, Seaforth. The Finish is located on the grass bank in front of The Manly Art Gallery, West Esplanade, Manly. Details: The eighth Manly-Manado 10km sponsored Walk (from Spit Bridge to Manly) is taking place on Saturday, 8th September 2012. This year's Walk is raising funds for 50 mothers and babies at Compassion's Child Survival Programme in Manado, Indonesia. It will also help raise awareness of why water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) matter in a developing community. Every day 21,000 children die, most from entirely preventable causes. Around 3,000 children die every day from diseases related to water and sanitation. Or if you are not able to join in the walk come down to support the walkers and the charity including joining the biggest ever toilet queue in Manly!!!!! Month by month Peek-a-boo's profile is growing as well as getting busier and busier God knows it needs to now Kate has finished work :-) As always, spreading the word really helps this - everytime somebody “likes” Peek-a-boo’s actual Facebook page it opens us up to a whole new community of possible CAKE LOVERS!!!! It also helps by ‘liking’ the weekly cake pictures. You know how grateful I am for this, it has become a vital way of raising Peek-a-boo's profile, and I will be running a couple of competitions through September for our Facebook members as a thank you with some delicious prizes!!!! I am also doing a lot of sponsoring at the moment; Schools, Clubs, Churches and different events. This genuinely is to help our local community although it shamelessly gets a bit of advertising out there too :-) I will keep you updated on the blog, I am quite booked up with ‘Sponsor/gifts cakes’ until December now, but if you have any money raising events coming up next year let me know. No Cupcake Saturday this Saturday 25th August Due to a fully booked out cake weekend and new dad duties I have had to cancell this months Cupcake Saturday!!!! We will be back next month with some extra special cupcakes that I have been practising, in the meantime cupcakes can be ordered in boxes of 12's ................................................................. Well baby Smith finally decided to join us on Monday 13th August 2.15pm Hugo Jack Smith  He is beautiful, very chilled and relaxed, Kate is doing great and Max loves him to bits although he looks a little pushed out already bless him.  We are getting used to the sleepless nights again (well Kate is) I have also managed to squeeze quite a few orders in, I will post soon. Enjoy this beautiful weekend 27c!!!! Neil |

I didn't think I would get chance to do a new blog as today is my wife's due date!!!! All of the little signs had fooled me into thinking he/she would come on it's due date, it still has a few hours to prove me wrong but I am starting to remember my impatience of Max's birth 10 days late!!! Anyway it shouldn't be long so I will get on with my update!!! Again, this month I have had great orders for some lovely people with fantastic feedback. The month started with Kate's baby shower, you will be pleased to know I did not choose from the horrid cakes I put on Peek-a-boo's Facebook page as a joke. I opted for a classy little number below, in Kate's favourite-Carrot cake. Now I know she is biased but she does say I make the best Carrot cake ever and I tend to agree :-)   Then it was the great "Soulfood" night at St Matt's with 2011 Masterchef winner Kate Bracks We did 460 cupcakes, 300 portions of Kate's plum & red wine mousse, 300 portions of her Grand Marnier chocolate dipping sauce then 300 shards of fresh honeycomb to dip into the chocolate! All three recipe's can be found in her book 'The Sweet Life'   The guy's with the goodies!    Back to the orders!!! The South's Retro Jersey  Then the lovely Tamara calls with a list of hobbies that she wanted turning in to a cake for Imogen! (I was quite proud of my 'wool' writing)  Cupcake Saturday  Then another of my favourites, I love colourful cakes in White Chocolate mud  75th Birthday - what a celebration!  Austin's Spiderman cake  Brazilian colours for Karolinee!  More assorted cupcakes,"Happy Birthday Julie" I have had a lot of orders for cupcakes lately  ..................................................................................... There are quite a lot of orders coming in, especially for the end of this month, which is great, word of Peek-a-boo is getting around, very exciting (keep it up) This months Cupcake Saturday may have to be cancelled due to too many orders for that weekend, along with a new baby, surely it will be here by then!!! I will keep you posted. I will have pictures of my new addition to Peek-a-boo soon,"Candy Buffets". They are great, sort of a posh pick and mix for adults as well as kids, they used to be mainly used for weddings but they look and go down great at baby showers, birthdays, christenings and any other excuse you can think of! Details coming soon Also people keep asking me for tips and hints when baking cakes, this months tip which took me a while to appreciate (due to my impatience) is: If a recipe says use softened butter, do not ignore it and throw it in the mixing bowl and hope for the best because you forgot to lift it out of the fridge!!! For a long time I did this or microwaved it to 'OIL'. If you plan ahead or leave it somewhere warm you will reap the benefits, your mixture will go into the oven with a light silky finish to it which will show in the finished masterpiece!!! Try it and enjoy! If it fails, order one from me :-) Well I had better go and make Kate another "raspberry leaf tea" and feed her more chilli and pineapple to get this baby moving!  Good morning all!Well, another few weeks have disappeared and I thought it was about time I harassed you all with another blog :-) It has been a great few weeks for Peek-a-boo with some fantastic feedback!! $1 Cupcake Saturday was a great success, we sold out and received four orders for future cakes including two weddings. I also had a few big cakes going out for delivery which allowed customers in the shop a sneak look!!!! .............................................................. We are hosting a great foodie night on Monday 23rd July at St Matts Manly. It will be a great night, Join us for 'Soul food' a taste bud explosion with our National 2011 Winner of Master Chef, Kate Bracks. Mon 23 July 7.30pm. There will be a few Peek-a-boo surprises too! Here are a few of my favourite orders from the past few weeks including a celebration cake for Wesley Missions bicentenary celebration, which was cut by a selected few including the The Hon Barry O’Farrell MP Premier of NSW at the State Theatre Sydney! Cupcake Saturday  A classic!  One of my favourites-a lot bigger than it looks here!  My first edible photo cake on edible icing not edible paper!  I love this cake, another one of my favourites-The theme of the party was to come as your favourite colour!!!  Wesley Mission bicentenary cake  The Rev Dr Keith V Garner Superintendent/CEOWesley Mission, The Hon Barry O’Farrell MP Premier of NSW plus guests cutting the cake at The State Theatre  A lot of people ask how do you get to the finished product when doing cakes, I am looking into holding small classes in the near future, here are a few pictures of the different stages of this cake Baked and shaped!  Sliced, filled and covered!  Iced!  Then decorated!  We have a busy few weeks coming up including a new addition to our little family, my wife is due August 6th- I will keep you posted-obviously there will be a cake! Well, I can not believe that it has only been one month since our first $1 Cupcake Saturday. It feels like it has been a long month, probably even longer for my 34 week pregnant wife! This Saturday's sale will include a few new flavours that I have been trying out, so well worth a visit. Just to run through the details: $1 Cupcake Saturday is a bit of a sampler day, a chance to taste delicious cupcakes for $1 which retail in most cupcake shops from a minimum of $5.50 each I will be open 10.00am-2.00pm The $1 Cupcakes will be limited to 1 per person so bring the whole family down. Additional Cupcakes will be available to buy on the day for $3.50 each Pre orders are welcome in boxes of 6 or 12. There will be no obligation at all to purchase further cupcakes after your $1 sample, it will just be great to share my new cupcakes with everyone, along with introducing you to the shop. The coffee van idea did not work out, but regular Tea and Coffee will be available to purchase at $2 each and soft drinks $2.50 If you want to grab yourself a coffee on the way that is fine too. Here are a few of this weeks cakes, there are some great orders coming up soon with a chance for me to do the big novelty cakes which I love!  An elegant,pretty pink birthday cake, vanilla and strawberry covered in a pink white chocolate frosting..........  Check out the layers!  This is a "Princess Torte" This looks like the simpest of cakes, but it is a Swedish national treasure (Lots of layers,sponge,custard, raspberry jam then topped a huge dome of whipped cream covered with marzipan.The pressure was on for a surprise birthday cake from Miguel of the fantastic www.flavoursofspain.com.au to his Swedish Wife. Apparently it recieved the Swedish seal of approval!  Amanda's Motorbike cake, Sorry Amanda but I had to sneak a few flowers on to it!!!  A sweet cake from the Lovely Ivy to her Daddy!  Well, another busy few weeks have past us by and it is nearly June!!! My first $1 Cupcake Saturday was great check out the assorted flavours and a few recent orders. The next $1 Cupcake Saturday is 30th June! I will also be starting the Manly Village School markets soon so I will keep you posted on that. This Saturday we are hosting our biggest morning tea alongside Sensational Seafoods Manly Check out the details here It will be a great way to start the Manly food& Drinks festival come and have Cupcakes and coffee, support a great cause, then go and enjoy the Food & Wine festival-Sounds like a plan. I have decided that $1 Cupcake Saturday will be held on the last Saturday of each month, Starting on Saturday 26th May 10.00am-2.00pm I will be baking a great range of my favourite cupcakes including: Malteser Vanilla & Fresh Strawberry Chocolate mint Oreo cookie Chocolate & Fresh Strawberry Lemon Drizzle Carrot cake $1 Cupcake Saturday will be a bit of a sampler day, a chance to taste delicious cupcakes for $1 which retail in most cupcake shops from $5.50 each The $1 Cupcakes will be limited to 1 per person so bring the whole family down Additional Cupcakes will be available to buy on the day for $3.50 each Pre orders are welcome in boxes of 6 or 12. There will be no obligation at all to purchase further cupcakes after your $1 sample it will just be great to share my new cupcakes with everyone along with introducing you to the shop. Who knows it could lead to regular Saturday opening. Hopefully the "Coffee Van" will be on hand for us all to purchase from, which will go perfectly with the cupcakes. Well, after giving you all a couple of weeks break, I am back with the latest on the cake front! It has been a steady couple of weeks over the Easter break, with a few Easter treats, birthday cakes a Christening cake and a Wedding cake.     I got the chance to practice my Character figures on Gaby's surprise 40th "G" cake, not bad for my first attempt!  Then there were 140-ish hand made flowers for Thomas and Liesels 12 layer Wedding cake    Laylah's Christening cake  The party cakes are still proving popular....   Chocolate has been the most popular lately, Laylah's Christening cake was White Chocolate with fresh raspberries. I have recieved really good feed back from each order. With having the extra space and time in the shop I have took time to improve my recipies even if I must say so myself, although it has ruined my diet each week! I have a few really great orders coming up including three more wedding cakes which is great ........................................ I will be starting my monthly $1 Cupcake Saturday at the shop in May I am looking at starting May 5th Then on the first Saturday of each month Details to be announced next week May 13th is MOTHERS DAY!!! I already have a couple of orders in and will have a selection of Mothers day ideas to pre-order on next weeks blog along with some hand made Mothers Day treats which will be available to pre order or purchase at the store on $1 Cupcake Saturday Ladies forward this on to your husbands or children!!!! Also a good friend of mine Katia Balko photography is looking at putting a Mothers Day voucher together for a special Mothers day photo shoot, a perfect gift alongside 1 dozen Cupcakes :-) details to come next week. My website has reached over 12000 page views in total now along with 3682 Visitors which is very exciting for me as it is something I set up and update myself, through Vistaprint of course but all the same it is great news! Page Views 12,049 Visitors 3,682 All I need now is each person who views the site to buy a cupcake :-) Peek-a-boo's Facebook page is doing well, I still need more people to take a look "Like" it and spread the word!
